The Choice Telemed system is a web-based software application suite that provides users with customized video-conferencing accessible through standard desktop or laptop PCs. The individual applications are hosted and managed using a common infrastructure that controls all aspects of the video communications process including point-to-point connection, scheduling, security, user identification, user management, as well as system usage auditing reporting, and billing. All of these features can be user-managed through a simple, browser-based interface.

Choice Telemed for telemedicine in correctional facilities

The Choice Telemed telemedicine suite is ideally suited for use in correctional facilities. In common practice, telemedicine uses videoconferencing equipment that allows health care providers to see and diagnose inmates in correctional facilities located far from health care providers’ offices. Choice Telemed provides the same features and functionality as industry standard telemedicine systems, but the administrative features built into Choice Telemed makes the use and management of telemedicine even more practical.

The Choice Telemed telemedicine application can be used for live consultations, where a doctor can examine an inmate and view live medical device data, which can subsequently be collected and saved to a session record along with physician notes, audio recordings and digital images. Onsite corrections staff can also use Choice Telemed to collect inmate medical information, which is stored and then accessed remotely by an offsite physician. The physician evaluates the information and sends back diagnosis and treatment instructions to corrections staff.
